Joy of Henna

Sowmya Ranganathan is the founder of www.joyofhenna.com. She is originally from Chennai, India and currently lives in Toronto, ON. She is fluent in Tamil, Hindi, Urdu and English, with some knowledge of French. Sowmya has an undergraduate degree in Mathematics, with a specialization in Chartered Accounting, from the University of Waterloo (UW). She is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Accounting at UW and a CA designation. She loves to travel, and has been to places all over India, Nepal,  Kenya, USA, UK, the Middle East and Canada.

She has had a passion for the art of Henna since her early childhood. It started with the Henna plant in her backyard. Traditional henna designs that were applied on her hands gave her immense joy and she was always left fascinated. Although her exposure to Henna decreased greatly after she moved away from India, her love for the art was revived in her teenage years. What started as doodles in her notebooks and experiments with a Henna cone quickly turned into a passion. She learned about henna traditions and designs in different cultures, and practiced on everyone who was willing!

She creates all the designs freehand, without using any kind of stencils or transfers. Although she is a versatile artist who is comfortable with different styles of designs, her favorites are Traditional Indian and Arabic.
